Female Hormonal Imbalance (including PMS / PMT)

Symptoms include:
Mood swings, bloating, cyclical headaches, water retention, anxiety, depression, skin problems, PCOS, facial hair, thinning hair, hot flushes, insomnia, crying, fibroids, painful & lumpy breasts.

Hormonal Causes - Adrenal hormones that underlie proper female hormone production are the leading cause of female hormone symptoms such as PMS and menopausal symptoms. If the body is under stress from mental & emotional stress, poor diet, medication or infection (see article entitled “What Is Stress” on this website”), female hormone production can fall at the expense of stress hormone production. The resulting imbalance in the female hormones progesterone and oestrogen can lead to many symptoms associated with PMS and menopause as well as polycystic ovary syndrome.

Digestive Causes – Unstable blood sugar from low calorie dieting and meal skipping, over consumption of carbohydrates and sweets, poor digestive function and food sensitivities (especially to gluten) can all contribute to female hormone problems. Chronic undetected infections - parasites, yeast, bacteria, fungus, etc -particularly in the intestinal tract, weaken immune function are a leading cause of adrenal hormone and associated female hormone problems.

Detoxification Causes – Women who have taken birth control or hormone replacement therapy have placed an extra burden on the liver detoxification pathways as the body tries to eliminate the hormones from an external source. Many women who react poorly to birth control or HRT or even natural hormone programs have liver detoxification issues. The liver can also be overburdened by chemicals in processed foods, pesticide residues and exposure to the thousands of chemicals in the world today.

Testing - Once symptoms and history have been discussed, lab tests such as the Adrenal Hormone and Female Hormone Panels can be recommended to identify imbalances and design a nutrition, lifestyle and supplement program to rebalance female hormones naturally. Typically, women will benefit greatly from avoiding gluten in their diet, eating smaller, regular meals to balance blood sugar, altering sleep habits and performing appropriate exercise that doesn’t over stress the body.
